Pripyat was once the town where
station workers lived. Now, it is fully abandoned. Over 100,000 people were evacuated from
the lethally dangerous zone, where Pripyat is the biggest settlement.
The process of evacuation was the
matter of extreme urgency. Children were removed from kindergartens and schools leaving
everything behind. These child toys are contaminated with the lethal doze of radiation.
The equipment used at Chernobyl
Nuclear Plant after the accident has become dangerous to utilize because of the large doze
of radiation. Helicopters, trucks, buses, military machinery are now buried at so called
"machine cemeteries" in the dead zone. The machines on the picture are worth
millions of lost dollars.
There remained a few people who have
decided not to move from the region where they were born and raised well knowing that the
area is contaminated. These are mostly older people or those who have no relatives
elsewhere.
Chernobyl affected all live
creatures. People who remained in the area were exposed to contaminated food, water and
air. It became dangerous to keep own cattle and grow fruit and vegetables after the
catastrophe fearing that the radiation will spread even further.
